About MDS Syringe
Enhancing Safety and Precision in Medication Administration
The MDS Syringe was developed to solve a real world problem in medical safety. Designed for Combat Medics and Paramedics in the field or in transport. Our patented design reflects years of hands-on experience and feedback from frontline medical professionals. We keep the engineering sharp and the safety sharper.
The Story Behind MDS Syringes
Laurence ‘Loz’ Moynihan is the visionary inventor and founder of MDS Syringes. A former British Royal Marines Commando, Laurence served with distinction, deploying operationally to the Arabian Gulf, the Gulf of Aden, and twice to Afghanistan. Trained in mountain and arctic warfare, heavy weapons, military transport management, anti-piracy tactics, and as a team medic, he dedicated nine years of his life to serving his country. After leaving the military, Laurence transitioned into the private maritime security industry, where he protected commercial vessels from piracy and provided close protection for high-net-worth owners of super-yachts.
Laurence Moynihan
inventor and founder of MDS Syringes
In 2019, Laurence traveled to Cape Town, South Africa, to undertake an intensive emergency medical training course. This hands-on program involved real-world ambulance shifts alongside experienced paramedics, offering him invaluable practical experience. During these shifts, Laurence observed numerous small incidents and errors, particularly related to the use of standard syringes to administer medications like Morphine and Ketamine in challenging pre-hospital conditions. On one occasion, a patient received an accidental overdose of Morphine, and on another, a syringe was inadvertently ejected into a top pocket while moving from the ambulance to a patient. Drawing from his military background, Laurence saw these syringes as potential weapons—dangerous tools with contents that could cause serious harm. Just as a weapon needs a safety catch, he believed syringes should have an added safety feature to minimize accidents, especially in high-stakes, unpredictable environments where night operations, movement, and fatigue increase risks. Inspired by this insight, Laurence set out to design a groundbreaking syringe that offers an extra layer of safety for paramedics and combat medics operating in the most demanding scenarios.
